This Sims 4 mod lets expectant parent Sims build a crib for their baby before arrival, adding emotional depth to pregnancy storytelling. The Build the Crib custom content is part of the Baby on The Way Sims 4 CC series and requires The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack. Instead of using poses, your Sims can now interact with an in-progress crib through gameplay mechanics, making pregnancy preparation feel more realistic and immersive in Sims 4 mods. Development Challenges for This Sims 4 Mod
Creating this Sims 4 mod was honestly one of the most challenging projects I’ve worked on. Getting the tunings, object actions, and states to behave exactly how I imagined took extensive trial and error. There were moments when I thought, “Why did I decide to do this?” 😅 But I didn’t want to release it unless it worked the way I envisioned, quality matters in Sims 4 mods.
The result is very rewarding. Seeing a parent Sim putting the crib together before the baby arrives adds so much emotion to the whole gameplay experience. It feels more real!
About This Sims 4 Mod
Key Features of the Build the Crib Mod:
- Game Pack Required: This mod requires The Sims 4 Parenthood Game Pack to work.
- Couple Interaction: The option to build the crib as a couple is available. However, in some situations you may notice minor clipping with the crib. It doesn’t break the interaction, but it can happen depending on positioning.
- Children Can Build Too: Children can build the crib too if you decide to let them.
- Pre-Built Option: The fully functional crib is included as a separate item as well, so you can place it directly if you prefer without going through the building interaction.
- Custom Moodlets: The build includes custom moodlets that follow your Sims through every stage of the build, from getting started to the satisfaction of completing the crib.
- Destroy the Crib Project: Sims can now destroy the crib project while it’s under construction, during Stages 1 through 3.
How to Use This Sims 4 Mod:
Download and install the Build the Crib mod into your Sims 4 Mods folder. Once in-game, find the buildable crib object in Build/Buy mode, place it in your lot, and have your pregnant Sim or their partner interact with it to begin the building animation.
The Emotional Layer: Custom Moodlets
One of the main goals with this mod was to bring in the emotional side of the process. Building a crib isn’t just about completing an interaction, it’s part of getting ready for a baby. Custom moodlets follow your Sims through every stage of the build:
- Getting started and feeling ready to prepare for the baby
- Looking at all the pieces and not knowing where to begin
- That point where it finally starts to feel real
- The last steps before everything is finished
- The satisfaction of completing the crib
There’s also a small emotional layer when things don’t go as planned, because preparing for a nooboo isn’t always perfect.

The goal was to make this feel like a real part of the Baby on The Way story, adding those small moments that make family gameplay feel more meaningful.
V6.1 Update: Destroy the Crib
Version 6.1 adds a new way for things to go wrong: a destroy interaction with custom animations.
What’s New in V6.1
- Destroy the Crib Project: Sims can now destroy the crib project while it’s under construction, during Stages 1 through 3.
- Available for Child, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder Sims.
- Young Adult, Adult, and Elder Sims get a custom kick animation with matching sound and visual effects.
- The crib switches to its destroyed state right after impact.
Storytelling Moodlets
Destroying the crib triggers one of three random moodlets, so the emotional aftermath is different every time:
- Destruction Feels Good — Happy
- What Have I Done? — Sad
- That Was Cathartic — Confident
New Help Interaction Icon
The Ask for Help Building the Crib interaction now uses a generic tools icon, giving it a clearer, more building-focused look in the pie menu.
Ideas for How to Use
- Let a stressed-out or unhappy Sim take their frustration out on an unfinished crib mid-build.
- Use the destroy interaction to add drama to a rocky pregnancy storyline.
