I’ve been playing Coral Island for a couple of years now, and I really love it. It’s such an entertaining game, so hearing that it’s coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this winter 2026 immediately caught my attention.
So far, I’ve only played on PS5. The idea of being able to take that little island escape out of the house sounds so good to me! Whether I’ll be able to bring my existing PS5 save over is something I’d still need confirmed, but having a portable way to play is already a big part of the appeal.
Coral Island on Switch 2: what we know so far
Stairway Games has announced a winter 2026 release, arriving alongside the free 1.4 Kids Grow Up update. There isn’t an exact release date yet, so I’ll be watching for that next announcement.
Why the original Nintendo Switch version isn’t happening
There is a disappointing part to this news for anyone who was waiting to play on the original Switch. Stairway Games says platform and performance limitations mean that version won’t be released. The Nintendo version is now coming to Switch 2 instead.
You can find the full explanation in Stairway Games’ official announcement.
A little farming, a little exploring, and plenty to do
If you haven’t tried Coral Island, you can grow crops, raise animals, get to know the residents of Starlet Town, and build relationships. There’s also underwater exploration and the Merfolk Kingdom to discover, alongside helping restore the island’s environment.
It’s easy to see why this kind of game feels like a natural fit for a handheld. I like the thought of being able to spend a little time on the island without having to sit down at my PS5.
Kids Grow Up is coming along for the ride
The 1.4 update adds more to family life, with children growing from babies to toddlers, school-age kids, and teenagers. There will be new family scenes and interactions, and the neighborhood’s children will grow older too.

The official press release confirms that the free update will also arrive on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S at the same time.
A quick note for original Switch backers
If you backed the original Switch version, check the developer’s announcement and confirm your choice by November 5, 2026. Eligible backers can choose a Switch 2 key at no extra cost or select Steam, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S. Anyone who doesn’t respond will receive a Steam key by default.
If you enjoy following other life sims too, you can also catch up on my Paralives roadmap coverage.
Have you played Coral Island yet? And would you pick it up on Switch 2?
