A bit more about me and a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of The Sims 4 Storybook Nursery Kit

If you want to learn a bit more about me and the work behind this official Kit I created with The Sims, here’s an interview I did with stassijsims4 for their podcast.

1. Tell me a little about yourself.

I’m Alex, though most people in The Sims community know me as SixamCC. I’m a 3D digital artist and custom content creator. Outside of work, I enjoy going to the movies—I’m a huge Margot Robbie fan—and my favorite fruit is apples. Oh, and I can’t go on a trip without my Kindle! I love being part of such a welcoming and enthusiastic community, where I can share my creations and collaborate with others who share the same passion for the game.

2. How long have you been playing Sims?

I’ve been playing The Sims for quite a while now. It all started when my cousin lent me her copy of The Sims 2, and since then, I’ve been hooked! That game opened the door to a whole new world for me, and I’ve been a dedicated fan ever since. Although, I have to confess, I haven’t played much of the spin-offs of The Sims, but my love for the main series has only grown, especially with the ability to create custom content and make the game truly my own.

3.  What made you start making CC, & What is your favourite Style?- Sent in by Coki

I’ve always wanted to make custom content, and I actually started out by doing some simple recolors for clothing—just casual things for me and my cousin. As I got more into it, I learned more about how to create different items for the game, and I found it to be a really fun and rewarding process. I wouldn’t say I have a specific style, but I do lean more toward modern designs. However, I also love stepping outside my comfort zone—trying something totally new, like a Mexican or Greek style, is always exciting and a great way to challenge myself creatively.

4. What Inspired you to create a Storybook Nursery Kit with EA?

The inspiration behind the Storybook Nursery Kit came from my love for blending nostalgia with a touch of magic. I wanted to create a space for Sims that felt whimsical and cozy, almost like stepping into a fairytale. Partnering with EA gave me the opportunity to bring that vision to life in a way that’s both playful and functional for gameplay. I was inspired by classic storybooks and the idea of creating a dreamy space where imagination can truly come to life for both the parents and their little ones.

5.  What Sources did you use to make the goth lore so accurate?- Sent by Disney SIms

To make the Goth lore as accurate as possible, I dove deep into The Sims series’ rich history, starting from The Sims 1 all the way through The Sims 4. I revisited past games to explore the original family dynamics and storylines, paying close attention to the subtle details that made the Goth family so iconic. I also researched fan theories and community discussions to gather insights. The Sims team curated my ideas and helped refine them, incorporating the ones that really made sense. Staying true to the essence of the Goths was important to me, while still adding a little more depth to their story, even if it’s just a tiny bit.

6. When designing this kit, what ispirates did you use to come up with the colour/ Pattern Scheme? Sent in by Reeky & Sils.

When designing the Storybook Nursery Kit, I wanted the colors and patterns to evoke a sense of warmth and nostalgia, with soft, calming hues like pastel blues, pinks, and yellows to create a peaceful atmosphere for little ones. I pitched some of my ideas, and the talented team at The Sims came back to me with references and sketches that perfectly aligned with what I had envisioned. They are incredibly talented and brought my vision to life in a way that exceeded my expectations. Together, we created a space that feels cozy, charming, and timeless, perfect for nurturing creativity and imagination.

7.  What is your favourite item from this kit?

My favorite items from the Storybook Nursery Kit are definitely the canopy and the Goth’s dollhouse. The canopy adds such a dreamy, fairytale-like atmosphere to the room—it’s elegant, whimsical, and perfect for creating that magical nursery vibe. As for the Goth’s dollhouse, it’s a nod to the iconic family’s lore, and I love how it adds a little bit of mystery and history to the space. Both pieces bring so much character to the room, making them stand out as truly special items in the kit.

8.  You are a fantastic CC creator. What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start making CC?-  sent by RD

Thank you! My biggest piece of advice for anyone wanting to start making CC is to just go for it. Don’t be afraid to experiment and make mistakes—that’s how you learn and improve. Start small, maybe with recolors or simple objects, and gradually build your skills from there. There are so many helpful tutorials and resources online, and the Sims community is incredibly supportive. I recommend joining forums, watching YouTube tutorials. Most importantly, have fun with it! Creating CC should be an enjoyable process, and the more you explore your creativity, the better you’ll get.

9. How was your experience working with the EA team to develop this Kit?

Working with the EA team to develop the Storybook Nursery Kit was an incredible experience and a long process—around 10 months, actually! It all started when I pitched ideas for different kits and themes, followed by selecting the final theme. From there, we moved into the conceptual design phase, working on the furniture designs, modeling, swatches, descriptions, and promotional pictures. There were tons of review meetings, and the team involved was huge—everyone from the global community team, who were amazingly kind, to the lead producer, art director, conceptual artists, 3D artists, and many others behind the scenes. They made me feel like I was truly part of the team, and it was amazing!

This experience really made me realize the passion and dedication that The Sims team has for creating content for our beloved game. It was such a rewarding experience.
